It was a perfectly normal day at the mall. As soon as I get here I always go straight to the clothes shops, but today was different. Today I went to the supermarket.
I'm not quite sure why I came here instead - I don't need any groceries, and I don't need any new school supplies. But, none the less, as I was thinking this, I realised I was walking towards the school section.
I walked down the isle, not knowing what to buy. I stopped at the scissors. The blade gleamed in the light as I reached down to pick them up.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed my wrist. It was a security guard,
"Just what do you think you're doing?" he asked. I slowly looked up at him. He was in his early-twenty's, with sandy blonde hair and a rather muscly body. His head was square, but still, he was handsome.
"I - I - I'm just getting some scissors" I stammered. The man was very intimidating because of his size, he looked about six foot.
"Do you think you're funny, do you!?" he hissed into my ear.
"W - What?"
He snatched the scissors from my hand and grabbed my throat. He was choking me! I tried to get away, but he was too strong.
'This man's a psyco' I thought to myself.
"SHANE!!!" a voice yelled out. The man, who's name was obviously Shane, let go of me and I fell to the floor, gasping for air.
"WHAT WERE YOU DOING?!?" the voice yelled again. I turned my head to see a short, chubby man yelling at the top of his lungs.
"I'm sorry boss, but this kid..."
"NO BUT'S, YOU'RE FIRED!" the fat man was screaming now, his face had gone bright red with anger.
I quickly got up, my neck still aching from the attack, and ran out of the mall as fast as I could go.
Weeks passed, and I never got up the courage to go back to the mall. But one day my friend Melanie sent me a message telling me to meet her at the mall. I decided to go, after all, it seemed safer if someone went with me.
I met her infront of the supermarket - the dreaded supermarket. She was really excited about something.
"What are you so happy about?" I asked her.
"I saw the coolest sunglasses in here yesterday. I just had to come back and buy some." She jumped up and down. It seemed a bit strange that she was so hyped-up about a pair of sunnies - maybe the supermarket made people turn weird...
"Here they are!" she called out to me. I walked through the door, and sure enough, there were the sunglasses.
I must admit, they were pretty, but very expensive.
"Can you afford them?" I asked her.
"Of course I can. I want those ones" she pointed to the ones on the top shelf, "boost me up"
I helped her up, but as I did, I saw the one thing that I didn't want to see - Shane was here! I jumped up in surprise and melanie slipped, and fell. The whole shelf tumbled down on top of her. Nearby workers rushed over to see what happened.
"I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry" Melanie said and helped them pick up the broken sunglasses. I took this oportunity to follow Shane. He went into the packing area, which was out-of-bounds to everyone except for workers.
"HEY YOU! YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED IN HERE!" a girl yelled out. Shane turned around and saw me, just as I ducked behind a box. But to my surprise, he ran away. I ran after him, ignoring the workers that were yelling at me. But Shane was a faster runner than me, and I lost him when he exited the mall. I sighed, that was a waste of time.
Then I heard a familiar voice...
"Forty days? Will it take that long?" I looked to where the voice was coming from. Shane was standing in a phone booth, talking to someone. He saw me and smiled - not a happy smile, but a horrible murderers smile, "Ok, then. Forty days it is" he hung up and walked over to me. I wanted to run, but my feet felt like lead, "w - w - what's happening i - in forty days" I stuttered. I was nearly too afraid to ask.
"You die" he said and walked off.
I tried to live a normal life after that. After all, forty days is a long time. But it finally caught up to me, and as I woke up that morning my stomach was wrenching inside me. I felt too sick to get up. I decided to leave - Get as far away from here as possible. I quickly got dressed and left without having breakfast.
I ran faster and faster without stopping until I reached the other side of town. It was mostly bush-area and dirt. I decided to hide out here for a few days.
Just then, an old car stopped nearby and I peeked over the rock I was leaning against, to see who it was.
A man that looked like an Indian got out. And his driver... was Shane! My heart was thumping in my chest now, and sweat beaded down my face. I got up and ran deeper into the bush. As I ran, I scratched my legs on sharp branches and prickly plants. But I ignored the pain and kept on running. I reached a small hut and hid behind the fence. I couldn't hear any footsteps so I assumed I was safe. As I looked around the fence. An arrow was shooting straight at me. I felt it pass me and It hit a nearby rock. I needed to hide! There was a thick tree a few metres away, I could hide behind that, until they find me. But there was a clearing that I would have to pass through first. I decided to take that risk, and I ran for it. Just as I reached the tree an arrow hit my leg. I fell to the ground in pain, the arrow was deep. The last thing I saw before I lost conciousness was the Indian standing in front of me.
This is a story I wrote when I was ten years old. It was based on a dream that I had, so it doesn't make much sense. But I like it anyway...
